Christmas can have many meanings, unhappily our society tends to make of it a superficial Celebration, made of buying a lot of material things. Christmas Day is very close to the Winter Solstice, the sun finally "winning" its battle to be reborn and shine longer, the passage between the longer nights toward longer days, the mysterious harmony between the Dark and Light working together and balancing each other. Then there is the birth of Jesus, Salvation, Hope, another manifestation of Light- and a very precious gift. And then, we have Santa Claus...whose real name was Nikolaos of Myra, born on March 15th 270 and the Bishop of Myra in Greece- He was very wealthy and knew a very old man who had three daughters- Nikolaos threw secretely three bags of gold during three different nights in the house of the poor man so that his daughters could have a decent future. I think this is the Spirit of Christmas, sharing what we have- giving from ourselves and also learning to receive with joy. We are all Santa Claus! I wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you! Whatever Christmas means to you personally

While Christmas is over, I figured that I could share my own little tidbit about what I did for Christmas and about what it means for me. I have never really been about the material things. While they are a nice plus, they are not a necessity in obtaining true happiness (or power---depending on what you are truly looking for in your quest for personal truth).
This Christmas was my first one spent overseas. I moved to Germany only a year ago...and this would be my first time without being at my Mother's house and opening gifts before a huge dinner spent with loud people laughing over silly jokes. At first I gave into my emotions and became somewhat miserable. Homesickness is not something I am familiar with...so I gave it the chance to win because this was an entity I was not used to fighting.
But, even with that first bit of depression...the day got better. I took the time to clear my mind of all negative emotions, telling myself that no matter what, it would be a good day. I was spending time with my lover and the friends I had made at the military base here. We had some spirits, had a nice dinner, we laughed and told tales of funny Christmas incidents in the past, and Skyping my family really helped as well too.
This holiday (to me) is about the memories. It is about getting people together that do not get to see each other often...it's about coming together (such as the Light and Dark does on this day), to create something new, something special...something wonderful that can be retold later and bring more smiles, and more laughter. Might sound silly...but this is just how I think.

I really like your idea of Christmas! Indeed, it is a great occasion to gather people who are far apart, physically but also even through Skype, it 's up to us to make of Christmas a special day to remember!

I agree...as in all of life, the experiences are what you make of them (it does not only apply to Holidays). But, choosing to make the most of what I could with the resources I was given, rather than sit around and mope all day...it made it a very delightful Holiday, much better than what I originally expected.

Actually it is quite incredible to realize how much our days depend on us, if we decide to take them as they are and use all they can give us, we can make treasures of them. Time is precious and life can be full of great moments if we become aware of them!
